The Fifth Grade Keyboarding Program consists of seven lessons using Word Wacker, a keyboarding software application, installed on the computer lab desktops. Each lesson contains four elements: a review of keyboarding technique, a warm up, flashcard drill and paragraph practice. The primary focus of the program is to reinforce proper keyboarding technique and to increase typing speed and accuracy. Each lesson will take 30 minutes in the computer lab but may be extended if desired. The program will be taught to all fifth grade LSR-7 students over the course of the year by the classroom teacher who will determine the scheduling. It should be noted that the program will be most effective if presented within a month’s time. Teachers are encouraged to use the SMART Board to present the PowerPoint lessons.
