Lee’s Summit R7 School District Instructional Software and Web Based Resources
Evaluation Process Lee’s Summit, MO 64086 |
|
Instructional software and web
based resources are important tools for both teachers and students in the teaching
and learning process. They serve to extend the knowledge and understanding
provided by the curriculum. The process of evaluating these instructional
tools has as its first goal ensuring the provision of quality resources for
improving both student achievement and instruction. The second goal is to
provide equity and standardization of resources across the district. To these
ends, this instructional software and web based resources evaluation process
has been approved for use in the Lee’s Summit R7 School District. The
process has been approved by the Technology Advisory Council and the
Instructional Operations Team (IOT). For the purposes of this
evaluation process, instructional
software and web based resources are defined as those that are commercially
available, licensed either to a teacher, a school or the district. Software and resources are content
specific, rather than a generic tool which could be used across content
areas. As software and web based resources are evaluated for district purchase,
the availability of funding must be a major consideration. It is important to note that
the Instructional Technology department serves as the office that organizes
and facilitates the implementation of the LSR7 Instructional Software and Web Based Resources Evaluation
Process. Instructional Technology works under the Associate
Superintendent of Instruction and also works closely with all IOT members to
move the process forward. In addition, the Technology department collaborates
on the technical aspects of the evaluations. Questions regarding the use of
the LSR7 Instructional Software and Web Based Resources Evaluation Process
should be directed to the Director of Instructional Technology at
816-986-1000. |

Overview of the LSR7 the
Process |
|
Instructional
software and web based resources should be selected to increase student
understanding of the curriculum and/or to improve student achievement. All instructional
software and web based resources which are being considered for purchase in
the Lee’s Summit R7 School District must go through an evaluation process to
determine the appropriateness of using the software to meet curricular goals. This includes the
following instructional resources: ·
Stand-alone and networked (local area or wide-area)
software programs ·
Web based software applications or resources ·
Comprehensive or integrated learning system software ·
Software bundled with textbook or other curriculum
resource materials The
Instructional Technology department will facilitate the process of software
and web based resources evaluation and those titles which are approved will
be placed in the District Approved Software and Web Resources listing. Questions regarding the approval
of software titles and/or web based resources should be addressed to the
Interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction and/or the Director of
Instructional Technology. No software titles will be installed and no web based resources should be used unless they have been approved for purchase through this process. |

(Form B) used during this process will be collected and kept on file by the curriculum
specialist, department chair or principal leading the team. Only the compiled copy will be sent on to
the Interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction. b.
If the team makes a recommendation to not purchase any
of the software titles and/or web based resources, the Director of
Instructional Technology would notify IOT and the process would end at this
point. 6.
After the Interim Director of Curriculum and
Instruction receives a compiled copy of Form

the Executive Director of Technology that a software and/or web resource has
been recommended for purchase. A full
technical evaluation of the recommended software and/or web based resource
will begin at this point. Software and

Instructional Software and Web Based Instructional Resources (Form C)
to determine compatibility. The
completed technical report will be sent back to the Director of Instructional
